What's the weather worth?

Bind a coin to a city and a weather metric. Its trading fees collect in a pot that stays shut until the weather crosses the strike you set, and a slice of it then buys the coin back and burns it.

How it works

Where the fees go

Weather never mints supply, never dilutes a holder and never touches liquidity. It decides one number: how much of the pot opens today. No address can withdraw a pot, including the one that launched it.

Trades pay in

One percent of every buy and sell is taken in ETH. Four fifths of it is the pot; the rest splits fifteen basis points to the creator and five to the protocol. The pot's balance sits on chain where anyone can read it.

A reading a day

A keeper posts one reading per market per day with a hash of the data it came from. Anyone can check it against the same public forecast.

The strike opens it

Cross the strike and the pot pays out in proportion to how far past you went. The payout buys the coin on its own pool and burns every coin it buys.

The release rule
release = clamp((reading − strike) / span, 0, 1) payout = pot × release

A strike that fires every day drains the pot as fast as fees arrive, so it never grows into anything worth watching. A strike that almost never fires builds for months. Nobody has to approve your choice, because the arithmetic already prices it.

Anyone can open one

Two markets measuring the same thing, and a window of one to thirty days. The window starts tomorrow, so today's weather cannot be read before the bell.

Back a city

Send ETH to a side while the window is open. It is not a stake you get back; it is money that will buy and burn a coin, and which coin depends on the weather.

The wetter city takes it

Both war chests buy the winner's coin, and the coins go to its curve, where a sweep burns them. A draw burns each side's own coin with its own money.

Things people ask first

Is this a prediction market?

No. There is no settlement date, no counterparty and nothing to be right about. The coin keeps trading and the pot keeps refilling whether or not the strike ever fires.

What stops the keeper lying?

Bounds, not trust. A keeper can open a pot early. It cannot mint supply, move liquidity, change a strike or take a pot. The reading is posted with a hash of its source, and the source is public.

Who gets the released value?

Holders, through supply. A release buys the coin on the open market and burns what it buys, so there is no claim list, no snapshot and nothing to go and collect.
